Cool Roof systems are roofs that are designed to reflect more sunlight and absorb less heat than standard roofs. There are a few ways this can be accomplished, and this can vastly improve existing or new roofs. Cool roofs can be coated with a highly reflective coating, sheet covering, or reflective tiles or shingles. Every building, for the most part, will benefit tremendously from this type of roof system. Here’s how we do it.

Let’s say you have a failing rubber roof, the route to recovery is simple:

  1. Installing a recovery board (creating a surface the coating can bond to)
  2. Spray with at least an inch of 3-pound roofing spray foam insulation.
  3. Finally, coat with a white silicone or an acrylic coating.

The benefits are many. While being less invasive than other solutions, this will greatly improve the building’s overall energy efficiency while providing a long-lasting barrier between the elements and what can wreak havoc on roof systems.

This maximizes the “coolness factor” of a roof by reducing thermal emittance (the roof’s ability to radiate absorbed heat) and solar reflectance.
